View Microsoft Word 2007 Files Without Word 2007

In my school, we have 3 different versions of Microsoft Office. The majority of student, staff and teacher computers have Office 2000 (yes, 2000!), some have Office 2003, and a few others have Office 2007. More and more though, students are doing their homework on their home computers, which have Office 2007 installed, email that assignment to their teacher, only to find out that their teacher couldn’t open it because they did not save it as a Word 97-2003 file. The great MakeUseOf blog had a post today about 4 ways one can view Microsoft’s proprietary .docx files. It’s a handy little guide.
One service missing from MakeUseOf’s post is Zoho. Zoho Writer is an online Word processor. Unlike Google Docs, Zoho Writer accepts the import of .docx files. The file can then be edited, saved and shared online.
Thinkfree is another online word processor that can handle .docx files. Thinkfree has an interface that looks amazingly like Microsoft Word. It’s very familiar and makes editing .docx files onine a breeze.
