Google Sites Video Tutorial
There are many teachers at my school using Google Sites to create their class pages. I decided to put together this video tutorial to help them get started. If you are outside of our domain, you will need to substitute your own information…
UPDATE: I’ve created an online course for Google Sites using Moodle. You can take the course by going here.

I am teaching a teaching and learning with technology class to preservice teachers in a COE. I was going to teach Google Page Creator but got the messages that it was going to be discontinued. Yours was the only step by step tutorial where I could learn this new tool myself prior to teaching it to my class. Thanks so much
This tutorial was fantastic. I was pulling my hair out yesterday trying to figure out how to set up a Google web site and was unable to find any documentation that was worth anything. Your tutorial has answered many of my questions and I very much appreciate it.
Josh,
I’m glad you found the tutorial helpful. I appreciate your comment! When you get your site created, let me know…I’d love to see it!
hi there
is Google site better for me as an online shop then page creator
thanks
Hey Erez,
First, thanks for the comment. Google Sites is the eventual replacement for Google pages. In my opinion, Google Sites is extremely flexible in that you can add many different types of pages to your site and it’s incredibly easy to use. I would say that Google Sites would would just fine as an online shop for your business.
can I take the moodle course free? Is there any tax?
Thank you very much from Spain, where I teach Educational technology
Angel
Angel,
First of all, thanks for coming to my blog. You can ABSOLUTELY take the Moodle course on Google Sites for FREE! This is a resource I created for my teachers at my school, but is open to the world. So, yes, please take the course. If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know.
I just wanted to thank you for making this accessible. I am going to pass it on to my colleagues and students. We have just started creating Google sites, but there is so much we still need to learn. This tutorial is exactly what I need.
Thanks again!
Racquel,
Thank you for coming by the blog. I’m glad that you found the Google Sites Tutorial useful. Might I also suggest exposing everyone to the Google Sites Moodle course I created. It’s free and goes more in depth than the 12 minute tutorial did. You can reach this online course at http://chol.citrushightechnology.com. Again, registration is free and there is NO CHARGE for the course, so please spread this URL around. I want to share this with as many people as I can! Thanks again for coming by and if you haven’t already done so, please consider subscribing to my RSS feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/ThoughtsFromATechnologySpecialist. Take care.
I found your tutorial while experimenting with creating a Google Site for a course I’m taking. Your tutorial is excellent. I’m trying to check out your Moodle class, too.
Hey there,
Thanks for this awesome tutorial and post! If you don’t mind, I’m going to write a short follow-up post and include this link into a Google Sites Template/Design Competition we’re hosting over at CodeKindness.org, http://codekindness.org/blog/google_sites_design_competition/ to help produce an exemplar template for other organizations to learn from.
Perhaps some of your readers might be interested in entering? Anyhow, we’ll be sure to include a link to your tutorial as well…
Cheers,
–Dave / CK
Jer,
Thanks for this terrific tutorial! I’m rolling this out to my nonprofit org now, and this will be a great way to get folks “jumpstarted”. Thanks again!
Marc
Marc,
Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful. I hope everyone in your non-profit find it useful as well. I've been to your website and it appears you guys are doing some great things. Thank you for ll you are doing. Please keep me updated and share any of the sites that are being created in Google Sites. I'd love to see them! Thanks again.
HI There,
And thanks for the great tutorial. I had to spend about two hours to learn it myself and then your tutorial helped me refresh my knowledge.
Now I have questions that would be a tough one for you.
When you need to do up the page and put tables to correctly format the page. How can you make it invisible on the viewer side.
Thanks,
George
Nice job on this tutorial! I’m currently preparing a presentation for the faculty at our school on using Google Sites for their web pages. We also have students using GS for an e-portfolio pilot.
BTW, are you the same person who signed up for the Skype project (I remember the name Citrus)?
Thanks,
Charlie
Hey Charlie,
Thanks for the comment. I’m not sure about the Skype project. Specifically, which project are you referring to?
hi i started my website put i cannot put alink that i want can u help me
Jerry,
Your instructional tutorial on Google Sites was most helpful. I’m the journalism teacher at R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. My students and I have put our school newspaper online using Google Sites. I’m also using Google Sites to put my class information online. Thanks for the help.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the excellent tutorial! I tried to access your moodle course and it won’t allow me in as a guest. Can you advise me on how to access it?
Thanks!
Suzi
Thanks for the awesome tutorial. Is there any way I can integrate my own domain to my Google site?. Thanks in advance
Thank you SO much for this fantastic tutorial. I was looking for a way to create a flexible web site for a person without much computer knowledge, but who wants to be able to add/edit material on their site without having to learn a lot of new things. Your detailed explanation of the Google Sites features will save us both a great deal of trouble! Again, thank you.
Great job! I’ve found creating my content in publisher, then pasting in sites gives me more creativity. I’ve also found you can put a picture with a link in the nav bar, but can’t get it to do the same within the site. Can you? Please respond via email. lomagregg@gmail.com Thank you.
super tutorial. you would think Google would have the ability to put something like this out instead of making it all a mysterey. theanks a lot
Your tutorial was very helpful. I have started setting up a website for our non profit AFA organization. The questions our group are asking is if there will be any ads placed on our site. Also if our site is safe and that we will not receive any spam mail to the members. Also is there a phone number that our group could talk to you directly. I am excited about the ease of setting up this website and need to convince our group that it is safe and would work for us.
Thanks,
Jan
what software did you use for the video? and how did u embed it.
COOL I am going to be visiting this again
I have made a google site with the help of your tutorial. I would like to arrange the gadgets so they looked more symmetrical on the page. I don’t like the way they are spaced and I can’t seem to move them around. Any Ideas?
Very cool, I hope this course has more of these…
This great looking website was created using Google Sites, how did they get the great looking graphic and modified text in the top section? (THe modification on the sidebar is puzzling me as well, e.g. Titles and Bold font)

Hi Jerry,
Your tutorial was very helpful.

I can’t figure out how to upload my powerpoints and pdf to
the new site. can you help me out here?
Henry
Hi I’m a teacher at Minnechaug Regional High in Wilbraham, Ma. My students this week will access your online tutorial on making google sites. Any chance you could email to me an attachment with a copy of this tutorial video? Email (work) pmoriarty@hwrsd.org Thanks
Two years later, and still one of the best intros to Google Sites Available.
Have you considered doing an update to cover Sites new feature-set? It’s an awesome tutorial, but getting a bit dated.
Regardless, thank you. I’m pitching Sites to my operations team, and your vid is the best I’ve seen to explain to folk what it is and how it works.
