I’m really starting to LOVE Twitter

Twitter is quickly becoming one of my favorite tools I use on a daily basis. This week the number of people I’m following grew to 91. The number of people following me grew to 41! One of the greatest things for me, coming from my new found fondness of Twitter, is my ability to network with other technology specialists from around the world. I would never have “met” these people if it weren’t for Twitter.
This week, I enjoyed a fantastic presentation, on UStream.tv, by Ryan Bretag, to his students at the high school he teaches at in Wisconsin. He presented a bunch of Web 2.0 tools that students can use in their daily studies. You can see a list of those “emerging technologies” here.
I watched another UStream by mjmontagne. He is a Middle School Technology Specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His UStream presentation was to pre-service teachers currently attending Alverno College’s teacher pre-service teacher program. It was interesting to see the new teachers’ reactions to the different types of technology that Mike introduced to them, including his blog.
Then, on Friday, I received a Tweet from Jeff Utecht. Jeff is a Technology Specialist at the Shanghai American School in Shanghai, China. Jeff created a UStream broadcasting music and dance performances from 6-12 graders live from Pudong Shanghai. This was a nice treat for a Friday afternoon. You can read Jeff’s great blog here.
My point to all of this is that none of it would have been possible without the network of contacts I have found on Twitter over the last month or two. Although I have been surrounded by technology for 2/3 of my life, I am still amazed by it. While watching those very talented kids in China yesterday, I couldn’t help but think about how incredible it was that I could sit in my office in Florida and watch these great resources, created all over the world by people just like you and I.
I really CANNOT WAIT to see what the future holds…

I signed up for a twitter account at the start of the school year but didn’t quite get it then. I didn’t have anyone to tweet with. I recently attended our state tech ed conference and have a renewed interest in it. This time I searched up names of ed tech presenters to follow, and sought who they follow to explore others in the ed tech area. So here I am twittering and finding the absolute addiction to the massive amount of awesome information it keeps leading me to. So I completely agree with you in the value! I have already shared so many things with our staff that I have found as a result of checking out links in tweets, links on blogs and websites from Twitter.
