Gearing up for the Florida Educational Technology Conference 2008

In a few weeks, I’ll be attending FETC at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. This will be my 3rd year in attendance and I’m really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, I’m not able to attend any of the ticketed workshops, the conference fee was expensive enough ($190.)  I am excited about seeing Jeff Corwin from Animal Planet as the keynote speaker. He’ll be talking about Environmental Education in the Age of Technology. I enjoy his television shows, but we’ll see what kind of public speaker he is. Last year, Bill Nye, the science guy, was the keynote speaker and he was interesting until he went all political and stuff. He, surprisingly, was not a strong public speaker.

Another session I’m looking forward to seeing is by Gary Becker entitled Copyright: Your Questions Answered. The session is described as follows, “Do you have copyright related questions in regard to the use of ITunes, YouTube, Podcasts, other download sites? Want to know if there have been any changes in the law? Have questions not mentioned you wish to have answered? Then take advantage of the opportunity, provided in this session, to be updated on current, copyright issues, as they pertain to education, and to pose your questions.” One of the questions I get asked the most by teachers is regarding copyright and what they can and cannot do in the classroom. Hopefully, I’ll get some valuable information that I can share with them from this session. Also, if any of readers of this blog have questions, post them in the comments and I’ll be sure to get them addressed. I’ve also discovered that you can listen to his session from last year. It’s located here.

I plan on blogging from the conference, so I’ll keep you updated on all of the festivities. If any of you will be attending, let me know.
