Spokentext.com – Great text to speech converter

Today I came across a great site that can really be useful in the world of education. SpokenText.net offers free online text to speech conversion. It’s quick, easy and an absolutely necessary tool for any teacher. I tried it out myself and was very pleased with the results. I tested it using a simple .doc file from Google describing their Google Docs product. With SpokenText.net you can “create recordings from plain text files, Acrobat PDF or Word files, emails, a web page or enter text directly to be recorded. You can also see the status of your recordings.”

You can listen to the recording created here.

It’s a little robotic sounding, but it was very accurate. I’ve also noticed that they are currently raising funds to buy new AT&T voices. Hopefully they are a clearer. Overall though, I was EXTREMELY pleased with the conversion. We have several students in the school that are visually impaired for which this tool would be very handy. I plan on including this site in my weekly “Web Pick of the Week” I send to all of the teachers in my school.

good

Great program and very useful to hear what I have written.
Need to slow it down a bit as time and dates are not always clear.

Interesting. I use this text to speech in my blog, because it’s easy to implement.
