bibme.org – a free automatic bibliography maker

OK, so I know as educators, our students need to be able to write a proper citation without using an automatic bibliography maker, but how great is this? Bibme.org is a fantastic web 2.0 site that will create these citations for you. What makes the site great is its ease of use. Let’s use an article from a newspaper website, The Buffalo News. In today’s edition there is an article about snowfall and Christmas Day. All I need to do at bibme.org is enter the headline of the story and click Find Article. The result is as follows:

After clicking select, bibme.org will automatically fill in any information it can find on the article including Date Published, Section, Edition and so on. I then add it to “My Bibliographies” and bibme.org will create my citation in any one of 4 formats (MLA, APA, Chicago, or Turabian.) I can then save my citation to a file or simply copy and paste the text to my document.

This is a fantastic service and is available, not only for online newspaper articles, but also books, magazines, websites, journals, and films. A great time saver! Thanks to the folks at bibme.org.

Have you used bibme.org? Let me know how you used it, post a comment! Also, if you know of any other great sites to help with citations and bibliographies, please share!
